About

Ian Jamison, composer — portrait

Ian Jamison is a composer based in Scottsdale, Arizona. Since 2018 he has written as half of Klein & Jamison, a collaboration with painter and gallerist Jim Klein in which music and abstract painting answer one another — a catalog now spanning sixteen works for piano, chamber ensemble, and orchestra.

His music has been released on Centaur Records, premiered at Steinway & Sons Scottsdale by artists including Steinway Artist Adam Zukiewicz and the Colorado Piano Trio, and recorded with musicians in Europe and North America. His most recent release, Piano Trio No. 2 “Mary Margaret,” drew press across the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain.

Alongside the duo's catalog, he maintains a growing body of solo concert works — four piano sonatas, a string quartet, and the piano cycle Anthrogenesis.

Press & Recognition

“It’s strikingly honest … a modern music, but very accessible immediately to anybody who listens to it.”
Adam Żukiewicz · Steinway Artist
“Gorgeous melodic themes, phrases, and turns of harmony abound … more than anything, these pieces tell a story. A welcome addition to the repertoire for saxophone and piano.”
Dr. Andrew Dahlke · Professor of Saxophone
“The four-movement work, Blue Diamond … rounds off this fine recording.”
“A deeply moving five-movement modern classical work … masterfully shifting between delicate, minimalist piano passages and bustling, triumphant string arrangements.”
“Richly layered, emotionally resonant, and masterfully crafted … a remarkable addition to the contemporary chamber music repertoire.”
“A work that honors loss without being consumed by it — offering listeners a space for reflection, fragility, and quiet transcendence.”
“Emotiva y elegante, Mary Margaret convierte el dolor en una experiencia de extraordinaria belleza musical.”
“The dialogue between piano, violin, and cello never feels performative. It feels deeply human.”

Piano Trio No. 2 “Mary Margaret” has been reviewed by eleven publications across four countries.
